Who We Are.

Founded in 2014, the Barbados Association of Tourism Employees (BATE) is a registered charity committed to advancing and protecting the interests of tourism workers across Barbados. We serve as a unified platform that empowers employees at every level of the tourism industry through professional training, capacity building, and lifelong learning. BATE champions excellence in service, leadership, and innovation to strengthen Barbados’ global tourism competitiveness. Through strategic partnerships, we provide meaningful financial relief via exclusive discounts, rewards, and benefits for our members. We actively promote national pride by celebrating Barbadian culture, heritage, and service excellence. BATE recognizes and honours outstanding tourism professionals through awards and national programs. We create opportunities for visibility and recognition on both regional and international stages. Our initiatives support personal growth, economic stability, and career progression. We collaborate with public and private sector stakeholders to deliver sustainable impact. Above all, BATE exists to uplift tourism workers while positioning Barbados as a world-class tourism destination.

Barbados Tourism Industry is a cornerstone of the national economy, contributing significantly to employment, foreign exchange, and community development. The sector employs fifteen thousand Barbadians across hotels, restaurants, attractions, transportation, and support services. Tourism workers are the frontline ambassadors of the island, delivering world-class service and authentic cultural experiences to visitors. Their skills, professionalism, and dedication directly shape Barbados’ global reputation as a premier destination. Investing in tourism workers strengthens both the industry and the nation as a whole.

OUR MISSION

The Barbados Association of Tourism Employees (BATE) is a unified body representing the heart and soul of Barbados’ tourism industry, its people. Our mission is to elevate service excellence, empower tourism professionals, and drive innovative projects that strengthen Barbados’ global reputation as a world-class destination.

At the core of our vision is the Tourism Renaissance Project, a transformative national initiative designed to redefine tourism standards, enhance visitor experiences, and create meaningful social impact for Barbadians.

Transforming Service Standards

BATE is committed to a new era of professionalism and pride within the tourism sector. Through training, recognition, and collaboration, the Tourism Renaissance Project raises service standards across all touchpoints, ensuring every visitor encounters the warmth, excellence, and authenticity that Barbados is known for.

Enhancing the Night-Time Economy

As part of our destination-enhancement strategy, BATE is spearheading the introduction of nightly laser light displays in two of Barbados’ most vibrant entertainment districts—St. Lawrence Gap and Second Street. These immersive, family-friendly spectacles are designed to energize the night-time economy, extend visitor engagement, and create iconic, share-worthy experiences that distinguish Barbados on the global tourism stage.

Social Impact: Eradicating Homelessness

BATE believes that sustainable tourism must uplift the entire society. The Tourism Renaissance Project includes a bold commitment to eradicating homelessness through strategic, large-scale fundraising initiatives. Funds raised will support housing solutions, rehabilitation programmes, and reintegration opportunities, ensuring tourism success translates into real social progress.

Flagship Fundraising & Signature Events

To finance these transformative initiatives, BATE will produce a series of high-profile, internationally appealing events, including:

  • Four World Record Events, designed to attract global attention and media coverage
  • A prestigious Beauty Pageant celebrating culture, confidence, and community impact
  • A national Tourism Awards Ceremony honouring excellence, dedication, and innovation across the tourism industry

These events will not only raise critical funds but also position Barbados as a leader in creative tourism development.

Our Commitment

BATE stands for innovation, inclusion, and impact. Through the Tourism Renaissance Project, we are reimagining tourism not just as an economic driver, but as a force for national pride, social transformation, and sustainable growth.

Together, we are shaping a brighter future for Barbados tourism and the people who power it.
